“I'm not injured everywhere.” The deep rumble of his voice made her skin tingle.

“Seriously?” Dawn swallowed hard as her hands followed the shirt up his torso, her fingers brushing over heated skin and hard muscle. God, he was magnificent, all taut pecs and rippling abs. Even the bruises couldn't mar the perfection of his body.

“How can you be thinking of sex at a time like this?”

His voice dropped, husky and low. “’Cause you’re standin’ between my legs wearing a tiny pair of shorts that only cover the top of your ass cheeks, and a damn tight top that doesn't hide what you’re thinking.” He leaned forward in the chair, so close she could feel his breath on her skin. “And nothing underneath.”
Dawn’s breath hitched and her blood heated, thundered through her veins. Until this moment, focused on Cade’s injuries, her attire had been totally irrelevant.

“How do you know I have nothing underneath?”

Cade traced lazy circles up the sensitive skin of her inner thigh, pausing at edge of her cotton PJ shorts. Dawn stilled as her brain clouded with desire. It was always this way with Cade: A chemistry so potent she was surprised they didn't combust.

“Let’s see.” He slid his finger inside her shorts and stroked along the sensitive crease at the top of her thigh, sending a zing of electricity straight to her core.

“Hmmm. Can’t tell. Spread for me, baby. Let me in.”

Her face flushed. God, the things he said did all the wrong things to the right parts of her body. “Cade . . . this isn’t the time. You’re hurt. Let me look after you.”

He grabbed her hips, pulling her so close she could feel his heat through her clothes. Dawn breathed in his scent of blood and grass, mixed with heady aroma of leather and manly musk, and a delicious shiver ran up her spine.

“You are taking care of me,” he said. “Man gets in a fight. Hurts all over. He wants to feel good. He wants something to make him forget the pain. And you—all soft and sexy and smellin’ like flowers—will do the trick.”

“I thought you came here for help.” Dawn made a token effort at resistance and raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t realize it was a booty call.”

“You got the nicest booty I ever seen.” Cade slid a hand down her hip, and then gave her ass a squeeze. Before she could move away, his finger was inside her shorts, stroking over the bare skin of her folds. She gasped as moisture flooded her sex, and her nipples tightened beneath her thin cotton tank. Had she really thought things would be different from every other time they’d been together?

“Naughty girl,” he whispered. “You go to bed without your panties and someone might take advantage.”

Review: Holding Strong by Lori Foster Book 2 in the Ultimate series

Holding Strong is the 2nd book in the Ultimate fighting series by Lori Foster and the novel was given to me by Netgalley for an honest review. I had never read a Lori Foster book when I received this novel so I started reading .5 and book 1 before I started reading this book. I think reading these novel's back to back gave me a greater enjoyment than if I had read them a year apart.

I really enjoyed Denver, he is a true alpha, protective, bossy and used to doing whatever he wants to do. Cherry is a fun, bouncy, flirty girl who had a abusive past and wants to leave it there and enjoy life. Cherry has crushed on Denver since she met him and he has been running fast in the other direction. I liked that Cherry realized her feelings ran deeper but Denver took longer to tune into his feelings..he was all about the lust at first and yes Denver talked about his wanting Cherry A LOT, too much actually.

The sub-plot of the story was dark, dangerous and really gave this love story a boost with the grit of it. I tend to like a bit more meat in my romances. It was especially entertaining to watch the other fighters at the rec centre distract, protect and poke fun at each other and their love interests. You will be happy to know that the characters from the novella and first book appear in this novel and brings the books together in a more cohesive way.

What I didn't like was Denver calling Cherry "girl" as an endearment. I have always hated that but this is purely a personal objection and may not bother other readers. It tends to make him sound much older than his years.

Overall I enjoyed this novel and will definitely keep reading the series as I love the fighters and can't wait to read all their stories. A 4 star rating from me..and if you love "lighter" MMA fighter books then you will definitely love the Ultimate Series. Check it out today!

Review: Wolf's Honor by Ambrielle Kirk Book 6 in the Caedmon Wolves Series and Another book in our Romantic Suspense Month

We have reached mid month in our May Romantic Suspense month and today we are talking about suspense in PNR.. Here is a novella and the 6th book in the Caedmon Wolves series.  The intrigue in the story starts from page 1 and is a huge vehicle moving this story forward.  Although the novella didn't work well for me...this could have been an incredible read with more words and a slower pace.

Netgalley was kind enough to give me this book in exchange for an honest review.  So with honesty in mind I have say I wasn't really excited by this book.  I am not normally a novella fan and this novel is a prime example why.

The characters in the book are likeable but with out a more in depth background and more page time letting us get to know them they only were single dimensional and therefore hard to connect with and hard to care about. The relationship that built between them was really rushed and I didn't feel the connection between the two characters.  Secondary characters you would feel better about because a lot of them were in previous books in the series.  I have been told this could be read as a stand alone but I think the reader would enjoy the book more if they had read the previous 5 books.

The story was interesting and could have been wonderful but 134 pages to introduce the characters, give of a sketch of the world they live in and create an action packed plot that has a lot going on is very difficult and I feel this could have been a wonderful read if it was a full length novel and not just a novella.
I am giving this story a 2.5 star rating rounding up to 3 because I just didn't connect with it the way I did with other novels in this series.

Ice by Chelsea Camaron & Jessie Lane Book 1 in The Regulators MC Series

In our fourth Romantic Suspense we look into the world of the MC...Part of the main plots in many books of this genre is suspense.  You can have huge nail biting suspense such as Susan Fanetti's Signal Bend series or suspense that takes more of a back seat to the love story such as Kristen Ashley's Chaos series.  I highly recommend both these series as great examples of not only the MC genre in romance but also to discover how suspense plays such an important role in both series.

This is a short review of a wonderful book..a don't miss for both MC fans and suspense fans alike...

I'm a huge fan of MC romance stories but I was finding that a lot of them have become the same but not this book. If you are looking for something unique in the genre then you really must meet Ice and the Regulators. The authors have given the basic MC tale a different twist that pulls the story into a whole different realm.

The characters are wonderfully rounded and really easy to relate to...the likability or not brings out your emotions and you really want to know what happens to them and their friends.

This was a 4.5 star read for me..and I can't wait for book 2, this also made me want to have a look at the these author's other series since I found the writing style so easy to read. I think it is time for you to meet the Regulator's MC!

Review: The Loneliest Alpha by T.A. Grey Book 1 in the MacKellen Alphas and the 3rd feature in May's Romantic Suspsense Month

In our third romantic suspense of the month we have a paranormal romance that brings suspense into the plot in a whole new way.  Can not seeing the hero's face bring the intrigue factor up to 10?  Definitely!!! Here is a little something different from a new to me writer who's unique look at how to catch a mate brings the suspense factor to a boil.

Read from September 13 to 14, 2013

Description:

One look will change their lives forever.

Lingerie designer Alicia Clarkson just had to open her stupid mouth. Now thanks to trying to defend a fellow pack mate, Alicia’s been blindfolded, tied up, and carted off to the new alpha of the Oregon pack—Gavin MacKellen.

However, the blindfold doesn't come off so soon as Gavin reveals he’s searching for a mate. But Alicia’s curiosity gets fired up when Gavin refuses to reveal his face to her. Just what happened to him? He talks to her from shadowy corners and behind closed doors. The man is as allusive as a squirrelly fox. But Alicia doesn't play games and the quiet spoken, hoarse voiced alpha doesn't stand a chance against her. They settle on an agreement, thirty days for them to get to know each other because that’s the only way this cowboy alpha will have it.

Gavin MacKellen needs a mate. But he knows no good woman would ever want to look at his face after the incident he suffered. After one look at Alicia Clarkson all his plans fly out the window. The woman’s beauty has stunned him damn near speechless. She torments his thoughts and Gavin finds himself yearning to know everything about her. He admires her creativity and intelligence, the cool way she handles herself in stressful situations. Most of all, he aches deep in his chest to taste her lips. Those beautiful sweet lips, but in order to kiss her without showing her what a monster he was, he has to get creative.

A relationship forms and as love threatens to grow between them Gavin struggles to cope with his physical appearance in the face of the beautiful Alicia. Will she be the one to stand in the face of a monster and accept or will she turn her back on him as everyone else has?

My Quick Thoughts:

Starting out I love the story thought the writing was good and the characterizations were multi dimensional . Then it seemed the story started to drag a bit, I think due to the amount of time spent with her trying to run away and locked in the house. I admit I got a bit bored during that bit. Then it took back off again with twists and turns which upped the suspense factor so overall brought the book back into line. I do need to mention that I felt the about face Alicia did from fighting to loving seemed a bit quick when so much time was spent on the trying to escape, the balance for me was out a bit.

Originally I was going to rate this a 4.5 star read but looking back I think a 4 star read but as this is the first book of TA Grey's that I have read I am definitely going to seek out more of her work. 4 Stars and a recommendation ..looking for a were book that is different from the usual faire..pick this one up. I know you will enjoy it.

Review: Exit Strategy by Lena Diaz Book 1 in the Exit Inc Series~~~Second book in May's Romantic Suspense Celebration

In our second romantic suspense novel of the month we would like to introduce one of the leading authors of romantic suspense Lena Diaz!  Lena is starting a new series and we have been fortunate enough to receive an ARC!!! This fantastic suspense novel will be released June 30th just in time to load onto your kindle for that quiet time at the beach or cottage.  Now romantic suspense in it's truest and steamiest form.

Wow!!! What a ride! Fast-paced, edge of your seat action adventure that will have you biting your nails!

Exit Strategy is a the first book in a new Romantic suspense series that is going to jump from the pages onto the screen if I had to forecast the future. Once you are in it's grip you can't put it down, I call it the "one more chapter syndrome". I was entertained from page 1 to the very end.

Sabrina our heroine is a heiress who seems to have gotten on the wrong side of Exit Inc. Mason is the Exit Inc. enforcer hired to kill her...and the story takes off from there, with gun fights, bad guys, worse guys, and the good guys coming to the rescue. What we want to know is why? Why has Exit falsely put out a hit on her. I'm not going to tell you anymore of the story...you so have to read it to appreciate it.

Lena Diaz is a new to me author and this won't be the last book of her's that I will read. The writing is excellent and the story well crafted. Although I found myself a bit at a loss in the first chapter or three, I soon found that my questions were answered I just had to hang in and let the story unfold at it's own pace. The characters have breadth and allows the reader into their heads so we can feel every fear and every emotion as they experience it.

Set in North Carolina it is the perfect location for this nail biter to unfold. The rugged terrain of the mountains and forests casts a darkness around the story and drags the reader even further into the intrigue.

May is Romantic Suspense month on t'irla's talk and I'm so happy to have received this ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. A solid 4 star rating on this rapid moving story will be released June 30th 2015 but don't miss out you need to pre-order it immediately. Start your summer the right way and grab this intense yet steamy romance and your beach chair then hang on for the ride.

Review: Hungry Like the Wolf by Paige Tyler Book 1 in SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team

In our first review of the month we jump into an action-packed paranormal romance full of suspense and sizzle.  Now read on and meet our tactical wolf and the nosy reporter!

Do up your seat belts this is one doozy of a ride! Paige Tyler starts her new Paranormal romance series with a BANG!!! The Dallas S.W.A.T. team are all wolf shifters, a super elite team who give policing a whole new definition. Thank you Netgalley for introducing me to this new to me writer and giving me this novel in exchange for an honest review.

In book one we have the leader of the Team Gage and crack investigative reporter Mac going head to head. We have some insta-attraction but the sex takes a few days. When we have the sex it is explosive...hawter than hawt! This is one bad-ass wolf-shifter...all the alpha a girl can handle. Mac is a sassy, smart mouthed but smart woman who wants to find out the TRUTH...but as they say "she can't handle the truth" LOL.

The reader is sucked into the story from the beginning and not let go until the very last words. The tension and excitement builds along with flying bullets, claws, fangs, explosions and passion. I don't really want to give away the story but if you take your most exciting police story from TV and add werewolf shifters and you have one of the hottest reads of the year!

4.5 stars and a new fan-girl for this series. I am definitely going to follow it and pre-order the next in the series. I will also be checking out more Paige Tyler reads but her crafting of this novel is genius! It gave me everything I love all in one book! You really can't miss this one it is a must read for all you lovers of police stories, mysteries, thriller, and PNR...now run, don't just sit there....run...ok ok...open a tab and one click this NOW

Spotlight Month: May ROMANTIC SUSPENSE

I'm pretty excited about this month!  May, the flowers start to bloom here in my corner of Ontario, we start hitting warmer temperatures *finally* and it is my birthday month.  What can be better than that?? Well, here at t'irla's talk we are doing our first Spotlight Month.

The month of May will be Romantic Suspense Month here at the 'talk'!

I have found a lot of my favourite romances have a hint of intrigue or a spark of suspense in them as part of a sub plot or as a vehicle to get the hero and heroine together.  I really enjoy that bit of mystery or a dose of thriller.   Then there are the books that are labelled Romantic Suspense where the main plot is the suspense or mystery and the subplot is the romance, but rest assured in the books I read there will always be a happily ever after.

I hope that we can open everyone's eyes to the role suspense plays in the romance genre and maybe find a new author or two, we might even find a favourite author who has penned romantic suspense under a different name.

I would love to hear from you and so you can share with us your favourite Suspenseful romance novel's or even pimp your own book so that we here at the 'talk' can help spread the word.

Now, lets put on our running shoes, get out our magnify glass, for it's time to meet the alpha's and heroines of Romantic Suspense!
