Dead Ever After******* SPOILERS Included BEWARE

Read from May 09 to 10, 2013

The end of over a decade of books. So long Sookie and friends you will be missed.

Description:

There are secrets in the town of Bon Temps, ones that threaten those closest to Sookie—and could destroy her heart...

Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.

But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough.

My Thoughts:  SPOILERS

Well, this book has brought a lot of controversy to the book reading community. Most didn't like the ending. I have to agree, however there were some really interesting points to the book. I liked 3/4 of the book. I enjoyed seeing some of Sookies friends return to help her. I was disappointed that the vampires were hardly in it at all. I enjoyed the basic plot of the story it was fairly fast moving and kept my attention. I knew from past books that I would enjoy the the characters. I don't believe there were any new characters introduced. I there seemed to be threads left hanging that were not tied up. Why was Horst coming to visit Sookie? How did Tyrese get through the wards. I know he had no soul but it was explained earlier in the book that "those with evil intent" and his intent was evil. We can assume what happened with Bob and Tyrese however we were not told exactly what happened. The curse in Albee's car we can assume who placed it there but it wasn't explained. Sam tried to keep Sookie from the bar because of his "deal" but he had to know that would not work in the long term, it just managed to make him feel bad. I could go on but I won't.
The ending...well really did it end. We got no HEA...we got a maybe...and I was not surprised by who she ended up with but it was very anticlimatic I was hoping it would be someone completely unexpected. The way it ended was just kinda boring. So for me it was meh. I respect Charlene Harris but I have to admit the earlier books in the series were really the best.

So long Sookie, thanks for all the hours of enjoyment you gave me, I hope to see you in rereads at least of the first 9 books:)

I have given this book 2 to 2.5 bears. Parts of the book were good but the overall was pretty disappointing and not really up to CH's standards. Maybe she was just bored with the characters *shrug*

Real

Read in May, 2013

AHHHH Remy!!! I have a new Book Boyfriend and so far my favorite CR of the year.

Description:

A fallen boxer.
A woman with a broken dream.
A competition…

He even makes me forget my name. One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…

Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.

He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .

But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.

I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

Book #1 of The Real, Raw & Ripped Series

Mature New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up.

My Thoughts:

My first thoughts when starting the book is that it reminded me of 'Beautiful Disaster' by Jamie McGuire..underground fighting, mental stability, over the top alpha and a lot of internal dialogue by the female protagonist. HOWEVER, as I kept reading I found that those were the only things that the books had in common. I got several more chapters in then all similarities were a thing of the past.

Katy Evans is a new author to me. This book was recommended by several GR friends but I still put off reading it for a while. I am not sure why..The title maybe. In the first 60% of the book was all about foreplay and getting to know each other. We saw most of this through the female POV with her internal thoughts I started feeling a disconnect with Remy. Then at 60$ we had a chance to see things through Remy's eyes and got a peak inside his head. We found out that KE addressed a very important mental health issue with ingenuity. I enjoyed how his friends and girlfriend accepted it. From this point the sex started and the love and closeness of the relationship grew. I feel in love with the story at this point and got completely absorbed in the characters and story.

As a true fan of Romance I have to admit that Remy had me wrapped around his finger from the first chapter. He is everything I love in a "hero" depth, vulnerability and a sense of self. This book has everything I look for in a story. Fully rounded characters, with depth of background that allowed us to get to know them. A story that moves carefully in the beginning laying ground work for the characters then at 60% it takes off like a rocket with all of the excitement, steam and suspense that I adore in my romances. Needless to say one of the best CR books I have read this year so far. I do have it sitting on my favorites shelf and look forward to doing a reread at some point in the future.

4.75 bears for this wonderful romance and a strong recommendation to all my fellow romance lovers. Do yourself a favour don't put it off like I did ...go buy it now!

Moon

Read from May 04 to 05, 2013

Laurann Dohner hits another one outta the park with Moon. Our hunky hero finds his happiness..finally.

Description:

Dr. Joyce Yards has never met anyone as irresistible as 466. Their therapy sessions are growing hotter, his raw sexual hunger becoming aggressive, and he refuses to discuss anything except the possibility of getting her naked. Joy understands the dire consequences if she indulges her passion. It will break her heart but she must walk away.

Moon has been drugged, his memory shattered, and he’s now little more than feral, a dangerous threat to everyone. In their need for help, the NSO doctors turn to the only female Moon ever cared about—the one who left him behind two years ago.

Moon isn’t the same male Joy once knew. There are no rules now. If sex tames the wild beast and triggers his fractured memories, allowing him moments of lucidity, then Joy will give him everything, body and soul. She’ll do whatever it takes to save him—even at the cost of her own life.

My Thoughts:

Best Cover EVER!! I mean ...umm...oh yes review the story...sorry got distracted.

Although Moon does follow the New Species formula Laurann Dohner adds just enough difference to each book to keep it fresh yet not move out of the zone that keeps us coming back to this series time and time again. Laurann Dohner has a way of making us connect with the male protagonists that has us loving them, hurting for them, and wanting them. I love how she mixes the males up with some being hard as a rock and others like Moon being more emotional and somehow more approachable. Even when he was having his flashbacks and thinking horrendous things you knew he wasn't going to hurt Joy. The heroes appeal to everything we females love in a man. The female protagonist is a bit more difficult to connect with also I really liked Joy I felt more of a connection with Moon, Harley, Justice etc. I loved seeing some of our NS from previous books and am hoping we see some of the stories of our other favorite NS in the future. The plot is simple but draws you in and doesn't let you go until you finish the book. The read is fast and easy, the flow and pace are perfect for this kind of tale which is why we fans keep clamoring for more and pouncing on them as soon as they are released. No there were not big surprises in this book but it felt like coming home when you read them. You get exactly what you expect..I call this "comfort reading" and I love that the New Species series is like my Mac and Cheese of reading:)

I give this book a solid 4 bears for being everything I want in a New Species book! I can count on Laurann Dohner for a great read with wonderful characters..can't wait for the next one!

SPRING TRAINING!

Back Cover

For baseball superstar Garrett Donovan, his contract with the New York Empire baseball team meant he’d finally have the means to secure a future for his family. He should focus on that…not on the sassy, beautiful Jessa Montgomery — or what she looks like naked. Getting involved with the daughter of the Empire’s owner would be career suicide. Jessa is a distraction he can’t afford.

Her father had warned her never to get involved with his athletes, so his request that she keep an eye on his new star player came straight out of left field. The last thing Jessa needs is another spoiled, egotistical ball player to deal with. But Garrett is none of those things. His no-nonsense attitude and smooth Southern charm makes her blood burn and her knees weak. Giving into temptation, she is consumed by the pleasure she finds in Garrett’s arms.

Jessa wants to protect his career but, Garrett won’t let anything get in the way of their passion.

A passion that could cost him everything.
