Reaper's Property

t'irla ~The BookSlayer~'s review Jul 26, 13  ·

Dark, Gritty, a motorcycle club as it truly is..rough edges and all.

Description:

Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.

But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.

Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.

Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.
Maybe.

My Thoughts:

Loved it!! A darker and grittier story. If you are looking for a read like Motorcycle Man by Kristin Ashley you will be overwhelmed Joanna Wylde takes a much more realistic view of MC's her novel is edgier showing the crude, lude bikers and a much darker story.

The characters are a definite study in the behavior of the darker side of a MC which truly shows up the innocence of Marie our female protagonist. I was put off by Marie throughout most of the novel putting her in the TSTL category. I am not sure how anyone who watches TV could be as unaware of what a MC could be up to and of at least some of their traditions. I felt she was leading him on in fact I thought she was a c&cktease. Luckily she redeemed her self in the last part of the book. Horse on the other hand was a balls to the walls, straight shooter who made every attempt to show her his "softer" side. I was definitely team Horse throughout this novel. I must state that Marie's character did lose this book a star.

What really made this book different was the story-line and the different vehicles used to move the plot along. I enjoyed when we got a peak into Horse's mind in a few chapters, it really took the story to a deeper level. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The secondary characters kept me guessing as to who was going to turn on Marie and Horse. The tragedy of addiction is used to highlight how a person can change and how easy it is to distort facts. I found the story engrossing and could not put it down. In fact I started it at bed time and finished it as the sun started to come up. I just couldn't put it down.

This was a 5 star read for me in almost every way but I did have to take off 1/2 a star because of Marie. So I am giving this Novel a 4.5 bear rating and I just can't wait until the next book comes out.

Looking for a meaty, dark read but a HEA?  this is definitely a book you will enjoy.

One Hot Knight

t'irla ~The BookSlayer~'s review Jul 24, 13  ·

Take one cute as a button Saint Bernard, add a knight in shining armour without the armour, stir then add one sassy, sexy dog groomer and you have the recipe for this lighthearted sweet romance.

Description:

Stupid curse!

Yves Sucat was a Crusader trapped in a canine body…until a beautiful twenty-first century dog groomer offered the missing link to break his spell. But Regina Patterson was no fluffy-headed female who would instantly melt at Yves' silvery seduction. The more time he spent with the tender-hearted blonde, the less he was able to keep his paws—hands!—off of her.

Regina was much more comfortable with dogs than men, and the stunningly handsome – stunningly male – knight who now shared her apartment was no exception. She’d hoped to find a man as loyal as the pooches she pampered day after day, but would Yves’s broken curse end with her own broken heart?

This ARC was given to me by Entangled Covet Publishing for a honest review.

My Thoughts:

This book came to me at just the right time. I was looking for a shorter read but wanted a sweet, lighthearted romance. Nothing too dark, or too heavy and this fit the bill totally. Christy Gissendaner has a way of taking random ideas and mixing them together into a cohesive fun story always adding in a dash of evil just to keep the blood moving. In this story our heroine Regina was a late 20's independent woman who loved her job and just stumbled into this over the top fairy tale. I liked Regina although I did have a few issues with her and yes wanted to smack her. A 28 year old talking like she is over the hill, whining about wrinkles and woah is me that I look like a Barbie doll and no one takes me seriously. umm..REALLY??? Geez if only I had those worries. Ok ok she suffered some heartbreaks and is in protective mode, I get that and because of that I forgave her superficial traits. I did adore Yves a sweet, not quite alpha male..but boy...all man! his character  had more depth and was a more fully rounded character, I found him much more sympathetic than I did Regina. Maeve/Delilah was a bit of a chin tapper for me. I know why CG didn't go into a lot of depth with her, the story would have gone in a completely opposite direction. I can see why she was in Regina's life but was still left a bit unsatisfied with the relationship between her and Regina/Lilith.

Reading that back it sounds like I didn't enjoy the story and I so completely did. It was a modern day fairy tale and I adored how the romance between the two main characters developed. Attraction then love, needing to solve a puzzle to have a HEA and a villain to foil. Really there is nothing not to like in this great beach read. I recommend you grab a copy and your umbrella and head to the beach or even your deck and kick back for a few hours and have a wonderful feel good read. Don't forget the sun screen!

This is a 3.75 bear read and a recommendation to all the romantics out there to give the book a read. I know you won't be disappointed.
